Hi, everyone! Welcome to my blog. Here's a quick Bio: I was born into radio and country music in the mid-eighties in Midland/Odessa, TX. I am very proud of my Texas roots (Dave will tell you). However, if you ask me where my hometown is I'll tell you Akron. I'm a Cleveland sports fan, so I know how to take disappointment and I love to watch and play all types of sports. I played soccer, softball, basketball and golf growing up and then when I got to college I decided rugby would a good choice, my knee and doctor disagreed. My favorite things to do included watching TV shows that 14 year old girls normally watch and sailing. My family normally takes a week or two every year and heads down to the British Virgin Islands. It's probably one of the most relaxing and beautiful places in the world! They also have preety good drinks:) That's me (to the left) enjoying a Bushwacker at Foxy's Taboo. Contact me HERE. You have to love people like this....for a laught. Do you think someone would call for one more dollar?
Hopefully, the person on the right just has an awesome sense of humor!
So...it's a little late and maybe this should be on Crazy NASCAR Lady's page, but I'm a huge Chelsea fan! This was on last week and I was in Nashville, but of course my DVR is set for Chelsea Lately every night! This was actually a pretty funny interview. Enjoy!!!
Gas Attendants -- None
In some states, full service is available to every customer at the gas pump. But regardless of how friendly and helpful your gas attendant is, you don't need to tip them.
Shampoo Person -- $2
Give a flat-rate tip for a shampoo and 15-20% for the hairdresser.
Doorman -- $1 per Bag
It all depends on how many bags they help you with. $1 for each bag is recommended. If you get the doorman to get a cab, give an extra dollar.
Skycaps (Airport Porter) -- $1 Per Bag
The standard tip is the same as the doorman but the $1-per-bag rate doubles if the skycap takes your bags to the check-in counter.
Food Retailers and Coffee Shops -- Suggested None
Smaller restaurants have tip jars, but you shouldn't feel guilty if you don't leave anything. But if you visit a place frequently and have a good relationship with the person behind the counter, adding a tip to the jar now and then is a nice way to say "thanks".
Bartenders -- 15-20% of Tab
Your bartender's tip should be determined by the strength of what you're sipping. Soft drinks should be a minimum tip of 50 cents per drink. Mixed or other alcoholic drinks should be about $1 per drink.
Restaurant Servers -- 15% of Pretax Bill
Restaurant workers have a minimum wage of $2.13 per hour. The wage was set in 1991, with the thinking that tips will help
bring workers up to or above minimum wage. So tips for servers aren't extra pay, it's how they make a living.
Pizza Delivery -- 10% of Pretax Bill
A decent tip would be 10% of the pretax bill. Harder deliveries should be 15-20%.
So I have been talking about Luke James for the past few weeks and just in case you still don't know what or who I'm talking about, let me fill you in.
Luke James was a contestant on American Idol this year, but last night we found out he didn't make it to the top 24. Now, in my completely biased yet true opinion, he should have made it through. Hands down he's better than some of those guys that did make it through!
Luke and I went to college together and I spent many nights watching him in many of the establishments in Downtown BG. Last year I asked him to come play the Home, Health and Garden Show and he did an amazing job.
He doesn't know if he'll try for American Idol next year because he hopes to make it on his own. I can tell you either way he will make it!
Fresh fruit and deli meat are probably not best for long-term storage, but survival food bars can do the job. They can keep your strength up and keep hunger pains from driving you nuts. High-calorie fitness bars are a few steps below emergency food rations but give good long-term energy. The bottom line is that a box or two of your favorite granola bars will fill short-term needs. Remember, nonperishable items that are individually packaged will last longer.
2. Water
Water is essential for survival. A few one-liter bottles or a family-style 2.5-gallon water briefcase should do the job but take into account how much space you have in your car.
3. Clothing
Warm and waterproof are the key words here. Fleece garments are great for warmth, and a windbreaker of some sort will help keep heat and withstand water. A shirt and a pair of sweatpants are good too, as well as survival ponchos.
4. Flashlight
You can go with a conventional battery-operated flashlight or a specialized emergency unit that doesn't need batteries.
5. Jumper Cables
Dead batteries are one of the main reasons people find themselves stranded. There are two choices: jumper cables or a portable charging box. The jumper box takes away the need for another car but it's bigger and heavier than jumper cables. Jumper boxes are self-contained batteries that are recharged at home and have jumper cables on the other end.
6. First Aid Kit
Some new cars come with a basic first aid kit already installed, but there are plenty of basic first aid solutions for older cars. Get things like sterile dressings, 4-by-4-inch nonadhesive bandages, gauze, anti-bacterial ointment, an irrigation syringe and a waterproof storage bag.
7. Additional Tools
Be sure your car has a good spare tire, a good jack and a lug wrench that fits. If you have wheel-lock lugs, make sure you have the key in the car at all times. A roll of duct tape is also a good idea.
8. Blanket
You can pack an extra wool or polyester blanket or go and get a heat reflective Mylar blanket that keeps 80 to 90 percent of your body heat. The emergency blankets are great space savers and only cost around $2 to $4 each.
9. Lighter
Packing a simple butane lighter will help you if you find yourself out of the car and in the elements. Don't burn candles in your car; the fire danger and carbon monoxide poisoning potential is too great.
10. Tow Rope
A tow rope can get you out of a jam but you need a partner who can pull you out.
I've had this conversation with my cousins and my sister. We feel that Taylor Swift loves things that happen in the rain on Tuesday nights....and now there is a chart for it. This makes me laugh and it makes me mad that I didnt think of it! Enjoy!
Rascal Flatts are getting into the Olympic spirit this year. Their latest hit, 'Unstoppable,' is being used as the theme song for athletes at the upcoming Winter Olympics.
"AT&T and NBC came to us about the song, and they wanted to change it into more of an anthemic thing before the Olympics -- not just about love but about you being unstoppable ... like an Olympic athlete, for instance," guitarist Joe Don Rooney explains to The Boot. So Jay [DeMarcus] got with the writers, Hillary Lindsey and James Slater, and rewrote the song to fit more of that theme, and it turned out killer."
The song, ironically, was written long before the trio had the Olympics on their minds. "Hillary and I had started an idea about a year prior to the three of us getting together -- James, Hillary and myself -- and we had a verse written with a melody started," Jay explains. "We played it for James, and he had this title, 'Unstoppable.' It's just a unique way of talking about the power of love. It's certainly a familiar theme, but we felt like it was a different take on it and a unique way of saying how much power love does have even in it's darkest days. So we wrote the song and took it to the boys and they liked it, so here we are."
Staff members of the "Late Show with David Letterman" were on the scene that day - including the executive producer Rob Burnett.
They say it all happened because Letterman had an idea he thought would be truly funny: a Super Bowl ad that featured the two longest-running adversaries in late night, sitting with Oprah as though at a Super Bowl party.
Leno agreed, but the idea had to be passed by the top NBC executives, including the chief executive, Jeff Zucker. Permission was granted.
